Qualche conferma e molte sorprese fra i vincitori dei Satellite Awards, arrivati quest’anno alla 14a edizione. Sono quattro le statuette conquistate da The Hurt Locker di Kathryn Bigelow: miglior film drammatico, miglior attore (Jeremy Renner), miglior montaggio e miglior regia. Nine di Rob Marshall trionfa fra le commedie e i musical, portandosi a casa anche il premio per la fotografia. Meryl Streep è stata incoronata come miglior attrice per Julie & Julia, mentre Mo’nique ha ritirato il premio come migliore non protagonista per Precious, confermando il proprio status di vincitrice annunciata anche per le premiazioni a venire. Questo il verdetto dei giurati dell’International Press Academy, che ha consegnato i riconoscimenti nel corso di una cerimonia tenutasi al Grand Salon dell’InterContinental Hotel di Century City, in California.

Ex-aequo a sorpresa per i film stranieri Gli abbracci spezzati di Pedro Almodovar e La Nana di Sebastián Silva, film cileno visto al Torino Film Festival. Sorpresa anche nella categoria dedicata ai film d’animazione, dove vince Fantastic Mr. Fox - Una volpe troppo furba sbaragliando l’agguerrita concorrenza di Up, La Principessa e il Ranocchio e Piovono Polpette. Un solo premio (miglior colonna sonora) per Fra le Nuvole e per i Bastadi Senza Gloria di Quentin Tarantino (Christoph Waltz - miglior non protagonista). Nulla di fatto per Bright Star di Jane Champion ed An Education di Lone Scherfig nonostante vantassero numerose nomination ciascuno.
