Conosciuto per il suo stile unico che combina elementi gotici e fiabeschi, Burton ha collaborato spesso con il compositore Danny Elfman, l’attore Johnny Depp e l’attrice Helena Bonham Carter. Ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti, tra cui un Leone d’oro alla carriera alla Mostra del cinema di Venezia nel 2007 e un Golden Globe nel 2008.
