Il film presentava la figura di Klaatu (Michael Rennie) e la famosa frase Klaatu barada nikto citata poi molte volte nei cinema ed in tv. Sia il titolo del film che l’attore Rennie sono utilizzati nella canzone Science Fiction/Double Feature dei titoli di testa di The Rocky Horror Picture Show (”Michael Rennie Was Ill The Day The Earth Stood Still, But He Told Us Where We Stand”).
Il 12 dicembre 2008 uscirà il remake americano di Scott Derrickson con Keanu Reeves (Klaatu), Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Kathy Bates, John Cleese.
